Con té, moda y diversión, así se apoyó a ‘Friends of Mexico, Mazatlan’/ With tea, fashion and fun, this is how Friends of Mexico was supported 

MAZATLÁN.- En una tarde hermosa, que tuvo como fondo las playas de Mazatlán, se llevó a cabo el Hats & High Tea, un evento que no se hizo para sentarse, fue oportunidad para relacionarse en un entorno de coctel para recaudar fondos y así apoyar a más de 800 niños mazatlecos. 

La asociación civil ‘Friends Of Mexico, Mazatlan’ fue formada en 1998 por dos ciudadanos de Canadá y Estados Unidos, con el propósito de ser una organización con mentalidad comunitaria, que apoya la educación de estudiantes en zonas empobrecidas de Mazatlán, y busca mejorar la experiencia de sus miembros que viven en el puerto. 

Este trabajo comenzó principalmente por parte de ciudadanos de Canadá y Estados Unidos, pero conforme han pasado los años, se han sumado mexicanos al proyecto, para ayudar a quien más lo necesita, para rendir honor a los valores de la solidaridad y del amor. 

Linda Hannawalt, presidenta de la asociación, expresó que decidieron crear este evento con temática de té y sombreros para hacerlo divertido, que no fuese un evento rígido. 

“La idea del evento de té y sombreros fue crear un evento que fuese divertido, que fuera bonito para obtener fondos y ayudar a niños de Mazatlán, con este evento se van a beneficiar como 800 niños”, señaló.  

Además de Amigos de México, también se apoyará a Refugio Mazatlán, el cual es un albergue que apoya y ayuda a jóvenes para que sigan estudiando. 

Juan Diego es uno de esos jóvenes beneficiarios que ha estado en el padrón de apoyo durante los últimos seis años. En su testimonio cuenta que el apoyo que ha recibido por parte de la asociación le ha cambiado la vida 

“Me ha ayudado muchísimo en todos los sentidos, estoy ahí desde primero de secundaria y ahorita ya estoy cursando la prepa; de verdad que me ha cambiado la vida, no sé qué hubiera sido de mi vida si no recibo ese apoyo”, expresó. 

Durante el evento se rifó una pieza única que fue donada por el mismo Philip Tracey, uno de los creadores de sombreros más famosos y geniales de la Historia. Él ha diseñado sombreros para la realeza de Inglaterra y artistas como Cher y Elizabeth Taylor. 

Además, se realizó un desfile de sombreros donde las participantes lucieron los accesorios más únicos y llenos de estilo.

On a beautiful afternoon that had the beaches of Mazatlán as a background, Hats & High Tea took place, an event that was not made for sitting down, but an opportunity to socialize in a cocktail environment to raise funds and thus support more than 800 Mazatlecan children. 

The civil association ‘Friends of Mexico, Mazatlan’ was formed in 1998 by two expatriates from Canada and the United States, with the purpose of being a community-minded organization that supports the education of students in impoverished areas of Mazatlan, and seeks to improve the experience of its members who live in the port. 

This work began mainly by citizens of Canada and the United States, but as the years have passed, Mexicans have also joined the project, to help those who need it most to honor the value of solidarity and love. 

Linda Hannawalt, president of the association, expressed that they decided to create this event with a theme of tea and hats to make it fun and not a rigid event. 

«The idea of the tea and hats event was to create an event that was fun, that was , to raise funds and help children in Mazatlan, with this event the aim is to benefit around 800,» she said. 

In addition to Friends of México, support will also be given to Refugio Mazatlán, which is a shelter that supports and helps young people to continue studying. 
Juan Diego is one of those youngsters and has been on the support roster for the past six years. In his testimony, he tells that the support he has received from the associations has changed his life. 

“It has helped me a lot in every way, I have been there since the primary and secndary school and right now I am already studying high school; It really has changed my life, I don’t know what would have happened to my life if I hadn’t receive that support,” he said. 

During the event, a unique piece was raffled that was donated by Philip Tracey himself, one of the most famous and brilliant hat creators in history. He has designed hats for England’s royalty and artists such as Cher and Elizabeth Taylor. 

In addition, a hat parade was held where the participants wore the most unique and stylish accessories.TLÁN.- With tea, fashion and fun, is how the Friends of Mexico, Mazatlan Civil Association was boosted to continue supporting children and adolescents with their studies.
